That would be a 1st...American Sleeping Beauty "Conkers" the village!! And they thought that when a drunk American soldier during WW2 left the village pub and decided to steal part of the village sign (which was only just recovered a few months ago) was horrendous!

We had an American camp set up here during the war. People still talk about it. Allthough most of it is favorable.

They are favorable here as well....but, made sure to point out that an American stole their sign way back then. There is an old airfield here and some of the elderly villagers remember going to the airfield as children and counting the planes taking off then counting how many come back. It was a ritual for them. They have great stories and are very positive about the Americans. It is the younger Brits who weren't around for that war who are not so favorable.

I was amazed by the amount of WWII 'artifacts' still around in Europe. Driving thru France especially. There were old air fields, pill boxes, and bunkers scattered throughout the country side.

You ain't kidding! About 2 months ago the cops were over here because my neighbors discovered an unexploded WW2 munition in their garden....how in the world they have not discovered that in the last 6 years they have lived here is unbelievable. You know the Brits and their gardens...they must log 20 hrs per week tending the "gawden".
