Sean so sorry to hear about your little girl. We will keep her in our prayers. That RSV virus can be tough on the little ones, particularly under 6 months.

All of 3 of mine had it the January following their births if I am not mistaken. All my kids were born in the spring (Cameron in April and twins in May) so mine were all around 8 months old when they got it and I lucked out that they didn't get it as severely as some of the younger babies. It did cause them to have an asthmatic type wheeze in their chest, bronchitis type coughing, and ear infections due to the excess mucus the virus causes. We didn't have to hospitalize them and were able to give them albuterol breathing treatments at home with a nebulizer.

I know it has to be really hard on you and your wife to have your newborn in the hospital. And the doctors can surely scare the hell out of you. Our pediatrician let us listen to what a wheeze sounds like in their chest. We were so freaked out when it happened that we went to a medical supply place and bought a stethascope so we could listen for the wheeze in their chests.

None of my kids have asthma nor does it run in either side of the family. However, each of them got one episode each winter of a recurrent respiratory virus (Not usually RSV after the attain a year of age) that caused a wheeze in their chest until the winter of their 3rd year. After they turned 4 the following spring, it never happened again. We did have to go the ER at least once with each of them I believe, because it always seemed to happen on a weekend or a holiday.

Our thoughts are with you and if you need to talk, don't hesitate to call.

Tonya - your niece is adorable! Went to the website, can't how incredibly happy the baby looks when she has been through so much! We will certainly keep her on our prayer list and pray for your brother and sister-in-law's strength through out this. I am so impressed at how they have handled their daughter's illness, with such strength and determination and grace.

Melinda - so sorry to hear about your son. I hoep he is on the road to recovery. Have you heard anything from the specialist about a diagnosis? Or did I overlook that post? We will pray for him as well.

Cathy - glad to hear your friend's child is in remission. Hope she is able to remain cancer free. Can't imagine what the parents with really sick child are feeling and how they manage to hold old throught it all. NO wonder she is negative. When you have a kid, who ever thinks this bundle of joy that they love with all of their being would ever be stricken with a horrible disease or condition? My heart goes out to them. Will pray for her and her mom.

Please include my niece in your prayers

Post by Tonya »

Hi,

I would appreciate it if everyone would include my niece in your prayers. We were on an upswing last week and the doctors were even talking about her possibly coming home weaned off the vent next month. She is almost 10 months old now and has never known any home but the hospital. Today they got news that based on some previous test results, her care team thinks she might have cystic fibrosis. They will do an additional test tomorrow that will give them more information. I can't even begin to tell you how this news has effected my brother and his wife. They have all been through so much already. Everyone's prayers and thoughts are what gets them through all of this.

Thanks,
Tonya

Ashleigh's test

Post by Tonya »

I just wanted to let everyone know that the test results came back this afternoon and she does not have cystic fibrosis. Thank goodness. That is at least one thing we can cross off the list. Thank you to anyone that included them in your thoughts and prayers. They still have a long journey with many uncertains, but at least this huge weight has been lifted.

My niece goes home!

Post by Tonya »

Hi,

I just wanted to update all of you who have been so kind to include my brother's baby in your thoughts and prayers. After spending all nine months and one week of her life in a hospital, she was finally able to make it home to try to live somewhat like a normal baby. My brother says it feels wonderful. As they reached home, they started seeing signs in yards welcoming her home. They still have a long road ahead of them as she still has the trach, vent, and feeding tube but it is quite a miracle that she is home.

Thank you again,
Tonya

Good morning. Want to please ask that everyone keep in their thoughts & especially prayers Twanna Hale. She is my co-worker, and dear friend, and I just found out this morning that she had a massive stroke yesterday (Sunday) --- she's only 29 years old.

The outlook at this point is not good. We have received very little information at this point, but I do know that she's in ICU at East Jeff, on a ventilator, and has bleeding on the left side of her brain.

I know how powerful prayer can be, so I'm hoping for a miracle. I'll keep you all posted as I find out any news.

Thanks everyone!!!!!

Will do, Julie.

Also, I just found out a little earlier that a person from my office is the mother of one of the Virginia Tech students who was shot. No real info yet. She received a call that her son was in critical condition. She's on her way to VT which is about 4 hours away.
